ICON 68 - Finca Maputo, Hakuna Matata Sidra Honey

Roaster notes

The second of our lots from Ecuador this season is a beautiful Sidra from Maputo. This exotic and highly prized variety has its roots in a now closed breeding facility, allegedly linked to Nestlé, located in Pichincha province, the origin of this lot. This meticulously honey processed example is truly special and it shows loads of complexity. We get juicy red fruits like raspberry and pomegranate with delightful floral notes like hibiscus and soft lemongrass undertones. A stunning coffee from an exceptional farm.

AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER - ROASTING AND SHIPPING: 14th September We’re thrilled to present our roasts of this exciting collaboration between James Hoffmann and Lucia Solis that explores how fermentation can shape what we taste in the cup. Starting with the same coffee grown at Finca San Miguel Urias in Antigua, Guatemala, four different processes have been implemented to isolate the impact of fermentation. Tasted side by side, the four coffees offer a rare opportunity to explore different fermentation styles and understand the role microbes and controlled fermentation play in shaping how a coffee expresses itself. The project will culminate in a live tasting on 3rd October, bringing everyone together to taste the four coffees at the same time. We’re really excited to share this experience with you. More information available on the official site here. *Any products ordered with this will be dispatched together on 14th September

This is the first time we’ve featured this relatively newly recognised variety. Discovered in Peru, this disease resistant Catimor cultivar shows excellent cup potential and through careful processing has resulted in a boozy profile that has loads of tropical fruits, juicy grapefruit and subtle florality.
