Methodology

How the shelf gets made.

See how RoastSearch collects, filters, normalises and groups specialty coffee bean listings from UK roasters.

Source

01

Start with the roaster’s own listing

The catalogue is built from product information published by represented independent UK roasters. Product links are direct, non-affiliate links to the roaster, whose own listing is the source of truth for price, stock, delivery and the current coffee.

Scope

02

Keep the list about beans

RoastSearch is a bean-only catalogue: whole-bean coffee listings are eligible, while pods, capsules, equipment, subscriptions, gifts and other non-bean products are excluded rather than mixed into the shelf.

Normalise

03

Put unlike listings into the same frame

Listings are shaped into shared fields such as roaster, origin, process, tasting notes, weight, price and brew method. Price-per-100g is calculated exactly as listed price ÷ listed weight in grams × 100; it does not include delivery, discounts or subscriptions.

Group

04

Use categories as useful signals

Brew methods and processes are grouped from the method and process language on a listing. A category can overlap another category, and a current matched count is a snapshot of classified listings — not a promise that one coffee can only taste or brew one way.

Read the result carefully

Freshness beats false precision.

Availability, price, roast dates and product descriptions can change after a listing is captured. The catalogue is a starting point for discovery, not a replacement for checking the roaster’s current page. If a detail matters to your purchase, verify it at the source.

Found a stale price, wrong classification or broken merchant link? Report the error and include the coffee URL if you can.
